What Supplements Are, and What They Aren't
A supplement is an addition to a varied diet and healthy lifestyle, not a replacement and not a medicine. That's not small-print formality but the core of using them sensibly: first get your food, sleep and movement in order, then fill in where a real gap sits.
Those gaps are more predictable than the shelf suggests. Eat little oily fish and you're missing omega 3 fatty acids. Spend little time outdoors and your skin barely produces vitamin D from October to March. Eat few animal products and you risk falling short on B12. Buying supplements doesn't start with what's available, but with what your days are missing.
Why We Make Six Targeted Formulas Instead of One Broad One
An all-in-one multivitamin delivers too little of many substances to live up to the claim, and unnecessarily much of others. We take the opposite route: per formula, only the nutrients that have a function there, at a dosage that means something. That also makes combining transparent: you see exactly what's in each product, and therefore where overlap can occur.
Our Six Formulas at a Glance
| Formula | Core composition | Moment | Key claim (EFSA wording) |
|---|---|---|---|
| CORTEX | Probiotics, botanicals, vitamin B6 and B12 | Morning | Vitamin B12 contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue |
| SHIELD | Vitamin D3 (25 mcg, 500% RI) and K2 | Morning | Vitamin D contributes to the normal function of the immune system |
| CORE | 910 mg EPA and 460 mg DHA, vitamin E | Daytime, with a meal | EPA and DHA contribute to the normal function of the heart |
| ECLIPSO | 4 mg astaxanthin, vitamin E | Daytime | Vitamin E contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress |
| FORGE | 200 mg magnesium from four forms | Daytime | Magnesium contributes to normal muscle function |
| DUSK | 250 mg magnesium, taurine, B6, D3 | Evening | Magnesium contributes to the normal functioning of the nervous system |
Which Supplements Do You Need?
Choose your moment first. A supplement attached to breakfast, lunch or a fixed evening action is one you'll keep up; a loose intention isn't. The moment determines the formula, not the other way around.
Fill in what's demonstrably missing. Little oily fish points to CORE, little daylight to SHIELD, few animal products to CORTEX for the B12. If you suspect a real deficiency, a blood test at your doctor gives certainty.
Start small. One or two formulas you take every day beat a cabinet full of good intentions. You can always expand; our routines are the shortest route there.
Know the one hard rule. FORGE and DUSK both contain magnesium and are alternatives to each other: you choose one, never both.
Combining Without Unnecessary Overlap
Four of the six formulas combine freely: CORTEX, SHIELD, CORE and ECLIPSO. Alongside those you choose one magnesium product: FORGE or DUSK.
Three overlaps to know: vitamin D3 is in both SHIELD and DUSK, vitamin B6 in both CORTEX and DUSK, vitamin E in both CORE and ECLIPSO. Using them together is fine, but add up the total daily amount and stay within the label dosage.
What to know beforehand:
- Use each product according to the label and don't exceed the recommended daily dosage.
- Never combine FORGE and DUSK at the same time.
- CORE contains fish and bovine gelatin, SHIELD and ECLIPSO contain bovine gelatin, ECLIPSO contains soy: relevant with an allergy or a vegetarian diet.
- If you take medication, are pregnant or have a medical condition, discuss supplement use with a doctor or pharmacist first.
What this isn't for: supplements don't treat complaints and don't prevent illness. If you feel unwell for long stretches, your doctor is the right first step, not a webshop, ours included.
Frequently Asked Questions About Nutritional Supplements
Which supplements do I need?
That depends on your diet and lifestyle, not on the range. Little oily fish points to omega 3, little daylight to vitamin D, few animal products to B12. Start with what your days are missing.
What's the difference between a supplement and a medicine?
A supplement adds to your diet and supports normal body functions; a medicine treats or prevents illness. Supplements don't do the latter, and aren't allowed to claim it.
Why no multivitamin?
A broad multivitamin delivers too little of many substances and unnecessarily much of others. Six targeted formulas make visible what you take, why, and where overlap sits.
Where do I start if I'm new to supplements?
With one formula at the moment you'll keep up most easily. SHIELD with breakfast is the most common starting point; THE ESSENTIALS is the ready-made version.
Can I use all six formulas together?
Five of the six: FORGE and DUSK are alternatives to each other, so you pick one. Beyond that, mind the overlap in vitamin D3, B6 and E.
When should I take my supplements?
Fat-soluble formulas (SHIELD, CORE, ECLIPSO) with a meal containing some fat; CORTEX with breakfast; DUSK at a fixed moment in the evening.
How quickly will I notice anything?
Supplements aren't an acute fix. Consistent daily use over a longer period matters more than what you take on any single day.
Are supplements a replacement for a healthy diet?
No. Nutritional supplements are an addition to a varied diet and healthy lifestyle, not a replacement.
